HCAH Response to Atlanta Tragedy
Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and communities of the eight victims involved in yesterday’s tragic shootings in Atlanta. The past year has been disheartening and overwhelming for the Asian and Asian American community. Houston Coalition Against Hate stands in solidarity with our AAPI siblings in denouncing the increase in hate incidents and hate crimes. Everyone deserves to be safe and protected. No one should have to live in fear for their personal safety.
A year ago, we made a joint statement with OCA-Greater Houston condemning anti-Asian sentiments, xenophobia, and violence. We are disappointed to find ourselves in the same place a year later. These crimes and incidents are absolutely unacceptable, and we must not remain silent.
While no acts of anti-Asian violence or crime have been reported in Houston, our community is not immune from this type of hatred and bigotry. Many of our partners have reported incidents of verbal hate and bias experienced by those they directly serve. We call upon Houston and the Greater Houston Area to courageously stand firm with HCAH against all hate, bias, violence, and discrimination in our community and across the United States.
